11/21 Give Thanks!

In case you missed our holiday blog enjoying time with friends and family...

Finally, the Holiday that we all know and love as Thanksgiving is here! A day for us to completely relax and enjoy doing absolutely nothing besides being thankful for our graces and eating like there is no tomorrow...but in fact there is a tomorrow, and we will continue to eat our way through that day too!

In actuality this day should be remembered for us taking the time to remember why we are where we are in life and what got us there. With all the natural disasters and unfortunate situations, please take the time this year to remember what you are truly thankful for in your own life. Check out what Kimball Office is thankful for below...

From our Kimball Office Family to yours...Happy Thanksgiving!

Case Study
The 86th Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

For 86 years, Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade has been the official kick-off to the holiday season! Every year this Emmy-Award winning tradition is seen by more than 3 million people in New York and 50 million people at home, all tuned in to see giant balloons, one-of-a-kind floats, amazing performances and much much more.

The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, often shortened to Macy's Day Parade, is an annual parade presented by the U.S. chain store business Macy's. The tradition started in 1924, tying it for the second-oldest Thanksgiving parade in the United States along with America's Thanksgiving Parade in Detroit. This three-hour event is held in New York City starting at 9:00 a.m. EST on Thanksgiving Day. The parade is televised for three hours on NBC everywhere at 9:00 a.m. local time, and live everywhere on CBS at 9:00 a.m. EST on Thanksgiving Day.

To get in the spirit of things, Kimball Office had their D.C. Team post a few things they were thankful for:

"My family, lots of laughter, and sunshiny days! (It's hard to pick just three)"

"I am thankful for every morning, my incredible husband and family and for the opportunity to work in a culture that truly cares about your well-being."

"Family, Friends, and Good Health!"

"I am thankful for a team that makes coming to work a pleasure and a family that makes coming home the best part of each and every day!"

"Family, Friends, and Money!"

"My family, my friends, and my special team, which makes each day worth working!"

Recipe Of The Week!
Turkey, Turkey, Turkey!

Every Thanksgiving people around the world boast about their very own special way of making Turkey! Some recipes are made up, some are passed down, and some are flat out "googled." Whichever way you come about making your turkey is great, and I am sure they are all delicious...however IF you are in the market for a new Turkey recipe, check this gem out! It is absolutely delectable and probably one of the prettiest turkeys I have ever seen...(sorry Mom!)

Ingredients

  • 2 gallons water
  • 2 cups apple juice
  • 1 1/2 cups kosher salt
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 5 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 5 bay leaves
  • 4 tablespoons black peppercorns
  • 2 tablespoons dried rosemary
  • 3 oranges, peeled, white pith removed, skin roughly chopped
  • 1 (20-pound) fresh turkey
  • 1 1/2 sticks softened butter
  • 3 tablespoons minced fresh rosemary leaves
  • 3 tablespoons chopped orange zest

Directions

  • Combine the water, apple juice, salt, sugar, garlic, bay leaves, peppercorns, dried rosemary, and orange peel in a large pot and bring to a boil. Turn off the heat immediately, cover, and allow mixture to come to room temperature. Cool mixture in the fridge until you're ready.
  • To brine the turkey, remove the turkey from wrapper, remove interior bags (set aside; refrigerate), and rinse turkey thoroughly under cool water.
  • Place the turkey into a plastic brining bag or a very large pot.
  • Pour the cooled brine mixture over the top, adding extra cold water if you need more to completely cover the turkey. Seal the bag or cover the pot and allow the turkey to brine in the refrigerator for 16 to 24 hours before roasting.
  • Before roasting, remove the turkey from brine and rinse thoroughly under cold water. Then soak in a sink full of fresh water for 15 to 20 minutes. Pat dry. Discard brine. (This soaking process will decrease the likelihood of too-salty gravy).
  • Preheat the oven 275 degrees F.
  • Truss the bird and place it breast side up on a rack in a large roasting pan. Cover the turkey tightly with heavy-duty foil. Make sure it's entirely covered (cover over the bottom edges of the pan). Place in the oven and roast for about 10 minutes per pound (a 20 pound turkey will roast for about 3 1/2 hours).
  • Remove the turkey from the oven and increase the temperature to 375 degrees F. Remove the aluminum foil and set aside. Mix the softened butter with the rosemary and orange peel and rub all over the skin of the turkey, covering every single inch of the skin. Insert a meat thermometer into the thigh, near the hip joint. Place the turkey, uncovered, back into the oven. Continue roasting the turkey, basting with butter every 30 minutes, until the thermometer registers 170 degrees F and until the juices are no longer pink.
  • Remove from the oven and cover with foil until you are ready to carve and serve. Reserve pan juices to make gravy.
  • *Cook's Note: This is enough for a 20 pound fresh turkey. You can decrease the quantity for a smaller bird.
